"Detectives, I need you to find our who ruined my research. It involved data about a spacecraft site that I discovered on the outskirts of Readville, Area 55. My computer keeps track of the last time a file was modified. Someone accessed and deleted massive chunks of my research on this sighting last night. Please tell me that you can discretely investigate this matter for me?" During this Mystery Party students will work together to solve the mystery AND learn about inferencing! Although students think that this is a fun game, in reality they are practicing one of the most effective skills for improving reading comprehension. Sharpening this specific skill will create an even higher level of comprehension and enjoyment for middle level readers. The material is so fun and engaging, students won't even know they are actually learning! After a short, engaging lesson on inference and collaboration students will walk through the mystery together visiting different locations to talk with suspects and gather clues. Learners will have the chance to collaborate with each other throughout the lesson to answer questions and develop theories about who is responsible for the ruined research.
