Mystery novels help to improve comprehension and critical thinking skills. They help readers to think differently and to pay attention to details they may not normally notice. In this class, learners will explore the mystery genre in an interactive and engaging environment. The teacher will read aloud “The Great Mouse Detective- Basil of Baker Street” by Eve Titus. Students will improve their understanding of the mystery genre and identify the elements of a mystery story. Learners will be able to demonstrate this understanding with their Paper Bag Mystery.
Handouts will be provided. Students will require a paper bag, glue and writing materials for the paper bag mystery and a folder for their detective files. Copy of the book not necessary.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
