Class Experience

Using a slideshow presentation, I will read The Mystery at the Fire Station story to the team. The story will stop several times, and there will be 5 puzzles to solve. It is important to me that all learners feel confident and successful in this class. If one learner is allowed to shout out the answer to the puzzle right away, this does not allow the others to have the chance to solve it. All brains work differently, and this is not a competition. So, while the learners are working on the solution to a puzzle, all learners mute themselves. When a learners have an answer to share, they send it to me by Chat. This allows me to let them know if they are correct, if they are on the right track, or if I can guide them to the answer in a different way, without affecting the other learners' chances to solve the puzzle. I monitor all learners, give clues, and provide feedback on their guesses. After all have had the chance to try to solve the puzzle, learners have the opportunity to share thoughts or questions with the team. Then, the story will continue until the next puzzle.

If learners are unable to use Chat or are uncomfortable with it, there is an option B. In those situations, learners are asked to raise their hand if they have a guess to the answer to the puzzle. They will need to bring extra patience, as I will need to respond to all the learners who use Chat first. Again, this is to make sure that all learners have the opportunity to work through the process without someone else "giving away" the answer.

I am so excited to have your child in class! Together, we will have fun while we explore many topics. I strive to help every learner feel welcome, safe, and accepted. If I can help in any way to make sure your learner is successful in my class, please contact me. As a mom to an amazing autistic daughter, I truly understand the need to feel completely safe and accepted.

I live in the midwest with my daughter and our five pets. There is never a dull moment in our home with a Shih-Tzu, Maltese-Shihtzu, three cats, and a hedgehog!

I look forward to seeing your child in my class soon!
