Class Experience

In this class, we will be discussing My Plain Jane. This book is a ghost story version of Jane Eyre with no lack of excitement and craziness. If you've ever read the original Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, or have just never had an interest in reading the original, this fun new take on the story will make you laugh out loud while still getting some of the same fun from the old original. New characters are introduced, but it's a fun take an on the old classic. Even with this new version of the story, we follow Jane as she deals with the many trials and tribulations of a lost woman during a time when women were meant to be seen instead of heard. Will our Jane stay silent as ghosts roam the streets? Or are the ghosts actually the sane ones in the story? Join along for the suspense as we discuss this book!

This class is broken down so that we will be reading (independently at home) and discussing the story as we go along. All reading should be done prior to the class session so that we can discuss the section together during class. We will be talking about the different aspects of the book as well as the structure of the story, including the growth of the characters and the arc that the story takes. We will discuss character archetypes, as well as the elements of stories, including inciting incidents and turning points.

Would we suggest this story to a friend? Does the author attain a goal by telling these stories? Were we scared? Would be share these tales around a campfire? Just a few of the things we will be talking about as the story unfolds!

All students are asked to have their cameras on as it helps keep students engaged and encourages conversation. Please raise your hand if you are ready to comment and respect the commentary of all other students by not interrupting.
