Is there anything cuter than kawaii? It literally means "cute" in Japanese! In this live ongoing class, learners will practice drawing in the kawaii style with me. I will model each drawing, step by step. Each week, we will do 1 or 2 drawings in the kawaii style. (Some are more detailed and time-consuming than others, so the number will depend slightly on the speed of learners attending.) We may or may not complete the coloring of the drawings in class, but it will be easy to add color after class if the learners run out of time. If time permits, we will take a moment to share what we've drawn at the end of class. Participation in this is purely optional! In my art classes, this is known as "compliment time" as the only things we can say are positive and encouraging. I make it a point to be extremely positive and encouraging throughout my classes, and I ask my learners to do the same. There will be a new theme for each week. The list will be updated regularly to show what we will cover next, but I will also be posting an updated schedule in the classroom. Learners can even suggest ideas for me to add in the coming weeks! Week of April 5-9: Sweets Part 1 (Baked sweets) Week of April 12-16: Sweets Part 2 (Cold sweets) Week of April 19-23: Cats Week of April 26-30: Coffee, Tea, and Other Drinks Week of May 3-7: Dogs Week of May 10-14: Fruits Week of May 17-21: Foxes & Rabbits Week of May 24-28: Sea Animals (including Turtles) Note: This is the same as my other weekly Kawaii drawing class, but the difficulty and teaching style will be geared more towards younger students. If your student is 7-10, please register for this class. The other class is for ages 10-14. I had to adjust the age range for this class because too many students outside of the original age range registered.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Auburn University
Hello! My name is Tina Kaye Houston. I love helping people learn new things! Locally, I've taught art classes that are based on studying the masterpieces by a variety of artists. I have tutored many students in math over the years, and I especially love Algebra and Trigonometry. I've also taught music and movement classes, and I've coordinated and administered standardized testing. I previously taught English to Chinese students online for nearly three years, and we are in our 22nd year as a homeschool family. Two of our children have graduated, and we still have a few years with our youngest child. I'm a scout leader, and I sing in a band. I spent most of my childhood reading books and learning crafts, so I'm good at making things and I love to read. I am a grammar nerd, too, and I love helping students to use good grammar without feeling overwhelmed by rules. What I'm the most passionate about, though, encouraging others to do their best. I have so many ideas, and I really look forward to meeting the needs of a variety of students and their families! I can't wait to meet you and explore new things together!
PLEASE NOTE: In addition to teaching my own classes here, I teach classes with "Just Help Me Learn LLC" here on Outschool. You can find Daily Grammar and other classes that I teach at https://outschool.com/teachers/Phyllis-Bixler Just look for which teacher is listed for each class time.

Class Policies:
1) If a class is small or has especially talkative students, we may end a little earlier or later, but I will always try to end on time.
2) If a scheduled class does not meet the minimum enrollment, I will contact the parent approximately 24 hours before class time to offer to transfer their learner to a new day and time. If requested, I may choose to teach the class at the original time.
3) Classes will begin on time, even if all learners are not yet present in the classroom. To respect the time of the learners in the class, I will contact absent learners after class to see if they had technical issues or other challenges.
4) If no learners are present in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes into the scheduled time before exiting the classroom.
5) If I am late because of having technical challenges myself, I will offer to stay late or transfer learners to a new session.
6) I expect that learners will treat each other kindly in class and show respect for everyone present. I treat others the way I want to be treated, and I expect the same in return.
