My Own (New) World: Where Creative Writing and Imagination Rule

During this updated course students will learn about different styles of writing with an emphasis on short stories, poems, and non-fiction. We will read examples of writing that compliment the week's focus (the outside/inner world, haiku/nature, imaginary worlds, self-reflective writing). During class students will have time to write/respond to a prompt.  After prompt writing, we will read a piece of writing and discuss the techniques, images, and emotions used in the piece. Each class is discussion based where everyone is welcome to share their ideas, writing, reactions, and questions. Class will usually conclude with a few more minutes of group writing. I believe that a classroom should be viewed as a small community where everyone is respected, welcome, and supported. No prior experience required and students who have already taken the course are encourage to enroll again. New stories, themes, poems, art, and prompts are being used for this course.
