Hello, and thank you for your interest in My Needs, Wants, and Priorities class! In this one-time, 25-minute class students will learn the definitions and differences between "needs" and "wants". They will also learn what a "priority" is and how to set and choose priorities appropriately. The class will be structured in the following way: 1. Greetings and introductions 2. Lesson on needs, wants, and priorities using interactive Google Slides (lots of discussion throughout the lesson) 3. Goodbyes This class is structured such that it has a high amount of student engagement. Before the class begins, students will be provided with a link to a set of interactive Google Slides through the Pear Deck add-on software. This sounds complicated, but it is just a single link you click on. The link will be located in the Outschool classroom in the discussion thread. Ideally, students may log into the Outschool classroom a couple of minutes early in order to click on the link to their set of Google Slides. The student's individual set of interactive Google Slides is in a separate window from the Zoom meeting application. There are several options for viewing both your Zoom window and the Google Slides window simultaneously. Option 1: You may access Zoom on your computer and the Google Slides on a separate device (e.g., phone or tablet). Or, vice versa, you may access the Google Slides on your computer and Zoom on a separate device (e.g., phone or tablet). Option 2: If you are using a single monitor on your computer, you may Restore (make smaller) both the Zoom and the Google Slides windows. Then arrange them (change their sizes) on the screen such that you can see both windows on your monitor. If you have trouble Restoring the Zoom window, make sure that you are not in the full-screen mode. To exit full-screen mode on a PC (not a Mac), click the Exit Full Screen rectangle in the top-right corner of your Zoom window. To exit full-screen mode on a Mac (not a PC), click the green dot in the top-left corner of your Zoom window. Option 3: If you are using dual monitors on your computer, you may drag either the Zoom or Google Slides window to one monitor and the other application to the other monitor. Students seem to love interacting in class using Pear Deck interactive Google Slides and it is a great tool to keep students of any age engaged and focused. Students will be able to use a drawing tool to draw on the screen as well as a drag-and-drop feature to answer questions during class. Each student can only see his or her drawings or drag-and-drop icons (you cannot see other student's responses unless they are shared, but the teacher can see everyone's responses). Throughout the lesson portion of the class, students will also engage verbally with the teacher and other classmates by answering questions and participating in discussions about needs, wants, and priorities. All students are encouraged to speak and engage in class but are not required to speak. All students have different levels of social comfort and I want this class to be one in which students of all levels of social interactivity feel included and welcome. A shy student will still learn plenty by absorbing the facts presented. On the day of class, students will be given a link to a set of Boom Cards to practice what they've learned on their own. The Boom Card deck will be available for students to play for 14 days. This is not required, but is a fun after-class digital activity students will be given the opportunity to participate in if they'd like to. No prior knowledge is required for this class. Thank you for your interest in My Needs, Wants, and Priorities and I look forward to seeing your child in my online classroom! Mrs. Kristi

Hello! My name is Kristi Robertson. I am from a small town in northeast Texas, USA and I'm excited to be teaching on the Outschool platform!
My experience includes teaching online for 12 years at the university undergraduate level, and 4+ years teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) online to young students between the ages of 2 and 16. I have taught a large variety of classes with Outschool since August 2020 and love every moment of it!
My educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a double-minor in Math and Environmental Science. I've also earned my Master’s degree in Business Management. I work full-time in the defense industry as a Project Analyst.
My teaching specialties include the topics of dinosaurs, reading clubs and story time, English as a Second Language, and life skills such as making choices, not interrupting others, being a bucket filler (how to choose a life of happiness), paying bills, using Google Maps, doing laundry, vocational skills, and police K-9 dogs.
My teaching style is patient, fun, and engaging. I use dramatic voice tone and facial expression to capture the attention of even the youngest of learners, but I do not “baby talk”. I believe students learn best when they are fully engaged in learning. I provide a safe and fun online classroom environment to meet the needs of every students' personality. I practice active listening to each student to allow them to incorporate their ideas and perspectives into each lesson in their own way. I promote social and emotional safety in my online classroom and foster a classroom climate of empathy, kindness, and inclusion.
My passions in life include raising and homeschooling my 15-year-old daughter, helping my husband take care of his K-9 police partner, Amigo, watching documentaries, taking care of our 24 cats (no, the quantity of cats was NOT intentional, but I love them all!), and online teaching!
I believe students can achieve great success from online classes and that online classes have created a tremendous opportunity for students to become involved in very specific areas of study and interest. I also believe that incorporating technology into our current education system is a positive aspect of education evolution and that it is the way forward! Using technology tools combined with my teaching style, your child will experience success in learning, socializing, and having fun!
I have an open-door policy for all students and parents. If you have any questions or topics you'd like to discuss with me from classes I offer to my teaching style (and anything in between), please do not hesitate to reach out to me! I am excited to meet you and your child in my online classroom soon!
