Class Experience

We will be building 80 different sight words in Minecraft plus other fun ways to practice! This hands-on method for practicing sight words is a great way to help the words really stick in your memory and learn to read!

Each week I will share a video in the Outschool classroom where I spell out and build 10 different sight words. I will also show students how to write the words in a book and quill inside Minecraft. Printable word lists will be available in the classroom each week. Students will work through the lists and post pictures of their builds in the Outschool classroom. I provide timely positive and personal feedback via video and messages in the classroom.

I will also share a weekly word search featuring the Dolch sight words we are working on each week. In addition to the weekly word builds, book and quill project, and word search, I will post a weekly video with a Minecraft themed practice project or game for students to engage with the sight words in yet another way.

Week 1: Build a school inside Minecraft to teach villagers how to read sight words
Week 2: Feed the creeper sight word game
Week 3: Decorate the sight word blocks worksheet
Week 4: Play a game of sight word bingo
Week 5: Play a game of sight word slap
Week 6 Complete sight word mazes
Week 7: Design a sight word sword
Week 8: Decode and color Minecraft sight word pictures

I will also introduce you to my favorite free sight word practice game on ABCya! so you can check it out and play on your own - no need to create an account or sign up for anything to access the game.

At the end of the class, students will receive a certificate of completion showing all the words learned and practiced in our class.

Please let me know if there are any difficulties and I can help you. I have made accommodations for students with demand avoidance issues and more. The goal here is play! As long as it's fun, keep going. If it's less fun, take a break.  Some students also really like when parents are involved. Maybe you build the first few letters of the word and your student finishes it.

I am so excited for you to join me in this class! Please let me know if you have any questions. This class is great for any and all Minecraft players from beginner to advanced.
