1 hour per week. Students are encouraged to continue practicing strumming, naming the parts of the ukulele, the C chord, and the song "Starlight, Starbright" or "Row Your Boat" after our class.

Class Experience

A first small-group ukulele lesson for young students who are new to the instrument. No prior ukulele or music experience is needed. This is a perfect class for complete beginners!

Students will learn:
-How to hold the ukulele
-Playing position and rest position
-The parts of the ukulele
-How to strum
-Proper hand and finger position
-How to play the C chord
-How to sing and play "Starlight, Starbright"

Engaging class that will allow students' first experience with the ukulele to be fun, memorable, and frustration-free!

Students will get the opportunity play ukuleles together as a group for the majority of the class. They will also receive one-one-one assistance as needed and tips to help improve their technique. Students will be encouraged to sing along to the song that they will learn to play.

I encourage family members to assist their learners if needed, but to remain off-screen during this class per Outschool policy. Frequent modeling, clear directions, and repetition will be used during instruction to maximize students' success.

This is a one-time introductory class. If your learner wishes to pursue the ukulele after taking this class, I recommend enrolling in the Uke Can Do It: Group Ukulele Lessons for Young Beginners Part 1 class next.

Learning Goals

Students will learn how to hold the instrument, ukulele playing position and rest position, how to strum, proper hand and finger position, how to play the C chord, and how to sing and play the song "Starlight, Starbright".

Other Details

Supply List
Learners must have their own tune-able ukulele (4 strings). A soprano, tenor, or concert ukulele is required for this class. Ukuleles must be tuned before the start of class (parents please assist with this). An electric tuner or tuner app should be used to tune the ukulele. A link to the song that we learn will be sent to you after class so learners can continue to practice it.

I am a certified music educator with a M.A in Music & Music Education. I fell in love with the ukulele over a decade ago, and have been playing and teaching it ever since. I have been teaching group ukulele classes for 10 years. I also have taught private music lessons for 15 years. I love this instrument and specialize in teaching beginning instrumental music lessons to young beginners. The ukulele is a happy instrument, so my goal is to make learning the ukulele fun and frustration-free.
