In this on-going class, your emergent reader will practice reading with engaging, fun books of interest to students. The emergent reader stage is most vital in your child’s reading journey. I want them to feel confident and excited as they progress beyond the emerging reader status. Emergent readers have learned the alphabet and have a grasp on a large vocabulary of basic words. Your child should have a good understanding of phonics and should be starting to comprehend word meanings in addition to word sounds. Each student will be given the time to read out loud while the other students listen. Depending on how many students are in the group, each student may not be able to read the whole book. When your child is not reading, they may draw a character in the story or their favorite part of the story. I am looking forward to being a part of your child’s reading experience!
