There are many different types of emotions we can feel…. angry, excited and sometimes worried. These feelings are all totally normal and there are things we can do to make sure we manage our worries rather than let them take over. You are going to listen to some stories, play some games and learn new things to help you feel your happiest, most confident and AWESOME self! We also do some mindfulness activities to help you learn to manage your emotions and we explore different ways we can manage our worries. You also receive a top tip for how to embed these skills at home and an additional activity sheet after each session. There is space for 9 children aged 5-7 to join the session, which is led by one of our experienced and inspirational Role Models and 'Billy' the Bunny. Our Role Models are energetic, engaging, and curious educators who are passionate about encouraging you to become the best version of yourself. All of our Role Models are hand-picked and trained by our education team (https://www.rolemodels.me/about-us/meet-our-role-models/). There are 5 sessions in this ongoing class. Please be aware that when you enrol your child on these sessions it may not be the first session in the series as you are able to join at any point. If you are unsure which session you are enrolling your child, please do not hesitate to message us. We also have 5 further sessions that you can join called My Feelings & Big Emotions Sessions Session 1: Name that Feeling: We can feel so many different emotions, not just happy or sad. Learn how to recognise, name and describe what a range of different emotions feel like Session 2: Feeling Angry: What happens when you get angry? What does it feel like? Learn was to respond to your anger, calm down and stay curious about other feelings hiding underneath. Session 3: How to Shrink My Worries: We all have worries. Learn how to shrink your worries through talking about them and sharing them with others. Session 4: Kindness: We have the power to impact how others feel. Learn how small acts of kindness can make a big difference to others. Session 5: My Worry Box: How can we stop our worries taking over? Make your own worry box to help collect your worries and choose when to give them your attention. We can’t wait to meet you and learn some awesome new skills together :)! Our sessions follow an education framework developed by teachers, education experts and business leaders. This framework, based on the work of the Partnership for 21st century learning, defines the skills and knowledge that children need to thrive at school, at home and beyond. Our course content emphasises the importance of developing life and career skills alongside academic attainment. Our courses have been written by our Character Education Team, who are highly qualified educators, within input from experts on our Advisory Board.
Learning Goals
These sessions are not designed just for children who openly struggle with their big emotions, we believe it’s healthy for all children to explore the power of their feelings; which ones they experience, how they feel, and how to respond to them. This helps to build emotional awareness, empathy and puts the foundations in place for children to be able to express their wants, needs and feelings effectively. We see this as an important part of building positive relationships, understanding ourselves and being aware of the impact we have on others. The sessions provide a much needed opportunity to stop and reflect on how we feel, and it helps to build the children’s vocabulary in order to talk about their feelings.
What are the benefits of these sessions?
- Enhanced future job prospects: World Economic Forum ‘Future of Jobs Report’ (http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_Future_of_Jobs_2020.pdf) consistently cites life skills as the most critical skills for the workplace.
- Increased academic attainment: Numerous scientific papers identify the correlation between happiness and academic attainment
- Improved mental health, particularly during a global pandemic
