There are many different types of emotions we can feel…. angry, excited and sometimes worried. These feelings are all totally normal and there are things we can do to make sure we manage our worries rather than let them take over. You are going to listen to some stories, play some games and learn new things to help you feel your happiest, most confident and AWESOME self! We also do some mindfulness activities to help you learn to manage your emotions and we explore different ways we can...
This course is not designed just for children who openly struggle with their big emotions, we believe it’s healthy for all children to explore the power of their feelings; which ones they experience, how they feel, and how to respond to them. This helps to build emotional awareness, empathy and puts the foundations in place for children to be able to express their wants, needs and feelings effectively. We see this as an important part of building positive relationships, understanding ourselves and being aware of the impact we have on others. The course provides a much needed opportunity to stop and reflect on how we feel, and it helps to build the children’s vocabulary in order to talk about their feelings. What are the benefits of these sessions? - Enhanced future job prospects: World Economic Forum ‘Future of Jobs Report’ (http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_Future_of_Jobs_2020.pdf) consistently cites life skills as the most critical skills for the workplace. - Increased academic attainment: Numerous scientific papers identify the correlation between happiness and academic attainment - Improved mental health, particularly during a global pandemic
Meet Louise Treherne our Director of our Character Education Team: Louise develops new and exciting ways to help children explore our four key areas of collaboration, resilience, creativity and leadership, in order to be the best version of themselves. Louise has a degree in Psychology, 12 years experience as a teacher and 5 years as a Senior Deputy Head at a London Prep school. She now works as a Coach and Educational Consultant, which includes working in different educational settings, delivering training and staying up to date with all things Character Education related! Through her coaching, Louise works 1:1 with adults and children to help them move forward with specific goals, explore limiting beliefs and develop their direction and confidence. Louise has created our content which is taught by our Role Models. Our Role Models (teachers) are energetic, engaging, and curious educators who are passionate about encouraging your children to become the best version of themselves. All of our Role Models are hand-picked and trained by our education team. In order to become a Role Model, they must have ample experience working with groups of children. They must also be adept at combining educational rigour with fun, to create active learning environments that children love. We have a number of qualified teachers and actors on our team. However, each Role Model brings something unique to the table. You can find out more about our Role Models here: https://www.rolemodels.me/about-us/meet-our-role-models/.
After each My Feelings & Worries Course we send you an additional, optional, exciting activities for your child to do independently at any point during their day/week. Each of these is designed to be a fun distraction from what is going on around them. These activity sheets will be emailed to you along with a summary of the content shared during the online session each day.
Please print the links in the welcome email. Please make sure your child has paper and a pen, pencil and a range of felt tips/crayons.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parents will receive a post session email – this email summarises what your child covered so you can discuss this with them. It will also include a 'Top tip' from from Louise Treherne, our Director of Character Education.
5 hours per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
The content is appropriate for all children aged 5-7. This course is not designed just for children who openly struggle with their big emotions, we believe it’s healthy for all children to explore the power of their feelings; which ones they experience, how they feel, and how to respond to them. Therefore they are not intended to be a therapy class.
