Class will begin with an introduction to my dog, Hazel. Students will have the opportunity to introduce their dogs as well. We will discuss interesting, fun facts about dogs, and then learners will share their knowledge and opinions. We will discuss the definition of a fact and an opinion. What's the difference? We will then sort samples of each. With teacher guidance, students will write at least one fact and one opinion about dogs and illustrate their work. Finally, we will share what...
Students will enjoy learning fun facts about dogs and sharing what they know. They will demonstrate the ability to write facts and opinions and be able to explain the difference between the two.
I cared for my first dog when I was a child, 48 years ago, so I am a life-long lover of dogs. I want to share my knowledge about their behaviors and needs in an interesting and fun way. The topic of dogs is absolutely perfect for teaching the difference between a fact and an opinion. Young learners feel very strongly about their dogs, so they tend to think their opinions are facts. It's very enlightening when they learn otherwise. The skill of differentiating between facts and opinions is an important step in the writing process.
Writing paper will be uploaded to print Pencil Colors, markers, or colored pencils for coloring illustrations
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
