DESCRIPTION: This class is part of a series of classes that focus on topics which help learners develop strong social-emotional learning (SEL) and growth mindset skills through inspiring stories, self-reflection, and engaging guided activities. Students explore their own ideas and thoughts while learning how to believe in themselves. They also learn why being unique is important, different ways to share kindness with others, and build self-confidence. By developing a growth mindset students learn to believe that they can always improve by putting forth effort and applying certain strategies. LEARNING GOALS: "Character Building 1.0" In this class young adults are challenged in four areas; Honesty, Forgiveness, Relationships and Responsibility. Each week students share their ideas and definitions of these topics and are guided through stories, questions and what if scenarios to identify the "best" actions to take. HONESTY: What does it mean? How can we be honest? What are good reasons to tell the truth? FORGIVENESS: What does it mean? How can I let my anger go? What if they never apologizer? RELATIONSHIPS: What does it mean? How do I build strong relationships? How do I make and keep friends? RESPONSIBILITY: What does it mean? What are responsible actions? Getting organized (to be more responsible). CLASS: Students will learn through the use of Nearpod, worksheets, and guided discussions and activities. This class utilizes an interactive presentation platform called "Nearpod". Nearpod turns a powerpoint presentation into interactive slides so that students are able to draw, answer questions, and much more directly on the presentation through out the lesson. This helps keep students engaged, allows them to collaborate as a class, and practice what they have learned. Students may need parental help in the beginning to join the Nearpod lesson. LEARN. LAUGH. THINK.

Hello! I have over 30 years experience teaching life skills classes to children and young adults. I have successfully completed training programs through the non-profit organization Called to Rescue in mentorship and positive personal development strategies for ages 6-18. Seeing students' self-growth through an increase in confidence, emotional intelligence, and kindness towards themselves and others is what drives me to teach! I hope to see your learner in class!
