Class Experience

Students will read for enjoyment.
Students will read to improve fluency and speed .
Students will justify their answers by using evidence from the text.
I have taught middle and high school English Language Arts for a decade.
Reading pages will be assigned after every class.
Three discussion questions will be provided for every chapter.
Students will need to include evidence from the text in their answer.
Class uses The Hunchback of Notre-Damn. I would suggest having a paper or digital copy. A free copy is available for kindle on the Gutenburg website. I prefer the old used copies or a library copy because the book has more character. That kindle link has a very nice copy with good margins. You can also find a free copy of the text online You will need paper of some sort, a pencil, a good eraser, and some kind of coloring utensil such as a colored pencil. Dollar stores have great erasers! You may want to keep your classwork items in an organizer of some kind.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Encourage students to read daily. By reading even two pages a day is better than zero pages read per day. Though students may feel too old for a sticker chart, your student may enjoy reading toward a goal such as a trip to the store to get a new nail polish or new stickers for a skateboard.
The kindle version of Hunchback of Notre Dame during class.
