Class Experience

In this 8 week course, students will work on a cabaret-style performance that includes short scenes, songs, and dances revolving around a theme (such as 1950's musicals, Rock musicals, etc.) Students will be assigned a variety of different roles and be expected to rehearse outside of class. Students will be challenged with material for their level, which makes this an excellent course for beginning and experienced musical theatre performers.

Students will learn:
Stage Presence
Characterizations
Voice and Speech
Movement and Dance
Projection
Vocal Techniques
The production process/technical theatre
Working as an ensemble
Audition Techniques

Students will benefit from the added experience of a guest choreographer during the semester so that they can experience different styles of teachers.

Each day will follow this general format:
Ensemble Games/Activities
Vocal and Physical Warm-up (Depending on the day's activity, one may be omitted)
Rehearsal: Students will rehearse their songs and dance routines.

We will utilize whole group instruction and small group instruction for scene work using breakout rooms. Students will be actively participating in the activities the entire time. This is a hands-on class. At the end of the course, there will be a virtual performance. Past classes have had parents log in to the zoom session, while also watching their child perform live.

Outside of class, students will be provided with character analysis sheets, memorization activities, and videos fo the choreography so that they can continue to practice at home. They will also be given technical theatre assignments so that they can decorate a background and wear a creative costume for the final performance. Students will also rehearse the history and related information of the assigned musical songs and dances, For example, we would provide an overview, and students will independently research the 1930's if we did a song from Annie).

I look forward to meeting your child and helping them grow as a musical theatre artist!
