Learner progress is assessed in class.Class Experience
In this course students will learn how to sing and act for musical theater style productions. This course requires prior singing experience (you MUST be able to learn a musical theater song) and sing to a karaoke track (often found free on You-Tube) . It is recommended that the student has a song in mind before hand. After week one, students will be required to perform their piece each class. Below is a rough schedule of what we will discuss in each session. Week One- Song, experience and Vocal techniques This week we will introduce ourselves, our experience and each students performance piece. Some basic topics and vocal techniques will be discussed in order to help students learn their song. We will also do warmups together in class. The warmup link will be shared in the classroom so that each student can warm up BEFORE class begins. Students are expected to have their song fully learned by week two and able to sing with a karaoke / instrumental track if possible. If a student is unable to do so we will accommodate and allow them to sing with the original vocalist. Please remember that they will get the best vocal feedback singing solo (without the original vocalist). Week Two-Performing Pieces, Vocal construction and Acting Techniques Please warm up with the shared link BEFORE class starts. Each student will perform their learned Musical piece. After each student has finished they will be coached vocally and given constructive, positive feedback. We will then discuss the acting aspects of their songs. We will introduce how to display the lyrics emotionally and physically through our actions, facial expressions and other techniques. The student is expected to practice BOTH aspects of Musical Theatre for week three. This includes their Vocal feedback as well as acting while performing their piece. Propβs and light costuming are encouraged for week three but not required. Week three-Final performance Students should be able to completely perform their song with a noticeable difference in their acting and singing. Each song should be creative and include the tips and techniques learned in the previous classes.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to sing and act in a Broadway style manner by displaying their song and its emotions physically. This is done through facial expressions, singing tone, motions and other techniques that will be introduced throughout the class.

Supply List
Learner will need to pick out one musical theater style song to sing in class. A karaoke track (often free on you-tube) is recommended. An additional device (separate from what they are joining class on) is recommended for ease of performance. For example, if a student is joining class on a laptop consider playing their karaoke on a separate phone or tablet.
