Every week we will listen to music from a particular composer, style, region or band and discuss what makes it interesting and how we feel about it personally.

We will start each class by listening to some musical selections based on that week's theme. After each selection, the student will chat about what they heard, what they liked or didn't like, what was surprising to them, what was the same or different from that day's selections from other music they have heard. We will use our musical observations to figure out how we can find this music again in the wild and find the answers to any questions they have about that artist or style!
Learning Goals
Students will gain exposure to a wide variety of musical styles and artists while learning appropriate and specific ways of discussing musical ideas and concepts.

I have degrees in both history and music education but my best learning has come from pounding the pavement and experiencing this amazing world we live in. I have explored this complex world and bring that same joy of discovery to my students.
I have taught in traditional classrooms, large assemblies and on the steps of the United States capitol. I have woven the story of bank robber "Slick" Willie Sutton's escape from prison standing over the tunnel he used on one of several attempts and created group compositions with sound collected from the world around us. I make history and music relevant, accessible and exciting. I challenge my students and welcome being challenged in return.
