Class Experience

Music Yoga Art Preschool is a class where introductions to music, yoga and art are centered around an affirmation "I Am A Good Listener." The class begins with a welcome song where we warm-up our voices and sing everyone's names. Then we play an instrument game, chit-chat about the affirmation, and engage in a breathing exercise before we warm-up our bodies with a 3-pose yoga sequence. We will dance our wiggles out to a high-energy song, wind down with an optional PDF art page to help inspire our creativity, and end with a goodbye song. The class is designed to be age-appropriately silly, energetic and open, with a practice of mindfulness and body awareness.

Because of the limitations of making music over the internet, there will be times during the lesson where the learners may be muted for optimal audio sound. There will be points throughout the class where we will be able to communicate and share ideas unmuted. Grown-ups are encouraged to be near by to help unmute or help familiarize your child with the mute and unmute function. (I also love when Grown-ups participate! Off-screen, of course, per Outschool policy.) Recordings are not available for this class.

As a teacher my style is very energetic, enthusiastic and inclusive. I love to interact and ask for suggestions and ideas for songs or games on the spot. I use projected visuals on screen to show yoga poses, games, and the PDFs used; I utilize the annotation features to highlight specifics and I allow yogis to draw on the screen. I will give everyone opportunities to share and speak, if they want to. I have a digital audio workstation and a high resolution camera for an optimal online experience, and will be playing ukulele and sometimes the piano during class.

Learning Goals

Musical artistic yogis will be exposed to basic musical concepts, introductions to yoga, encouraged to move freely and expressively, and inspired to imagine the possibilities, perfectly suited for 3-5 year olds. Some basic musical concepts taught in this class are big and little beats, musical contrasts, musical forms, and ear training. Introductions to yoga include breath work, mindfulness and pose technique. The art section is designed to get the creative juices flowing rather than perfecting techniques. Each yogi will be encouraged to share interests and ideas to facilitate inclusivity, community and imagination. (Grown-Ups should be nearby to help with any technical difficulties.)

Safety and privacy are Outschool's and my top priority. Enabling Original Sound in Zoom Audio Settings will help me tremendously with being able to hear your yogi. It is highly recommended that you Enable Original Sound when doing music classes.
