Description
Class Experience
In this 4-week LIVE class we will talk about 8 famous composers from 4 different musical time periods. This class is intended for students ages 13-18. I have an additional section available to students ages 8-12. If your learner is 8-12, please register them for my junior section (found here: https://outschool.com/classes/music-with-the-masters-famous-music-and-the-people-who-wrote-it-3b3RzphA#usyEyY5sbz) . The course outline can be found below: Week 1: Baroque (Johann Sebastian Bach,...
Students will learn about the lives and music of 8 different famous composers. These composers will represent the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern musical eras. Learners will also learn about these different eras in musical history, the characteristics of each era, and practice critical listening and creative thinking skills by participating in in-class discussion.
I am a classically trained musician with nearly 10 years of higher education experience. During my time in higher education, I have enjoyed both learning about and teaching music appreciation and music history. This course combines these two unique fields, allowing learners to learn more about music history and famous composers while simultaneously learning to listen creatively, express opinions, and share ideas regarding music. I love working with teens on these skills and cannot wait to meet your learner!
Learners will be provided with optional comprehension and critical thinking questions each week. They will also be provided with optional listening playlists. Students who choose to answer the questions can post them to the classroom for teacher feedback and evaluation.
All materials will be provided by the instructor.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
There is no formal assessment process for this course. Learners will be assessed based on their in-class discussion. At the end of this course, learners will be provided with a certificate of completion.
