Students will learn about the lives and music of 8 different famous composers. These composers will represent the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern musical eras. Learners will also learn about these different eras in musical history, the characteristics of each era, and practice critical listening and creative thinking skills by answering guided questions and participating in in-class discussion.
I am a classically trained musician with nearly 10 years of higher education experience. During my time in higher education, I have enjoyed both learning about and teaching music appreciation and music history. This course combines these two unique fields, allowing learners to learn more about music history and famous composers while simultaneously learning to listen creatively, express opinions, and share ideas regarding music. I love working with teens on these skills and cannot wait to meet your learner!
Learners will be provided with comprehension and critical thinking questions no later than Monday at 5pm each week. They should answer these questions after watching the video lecture and listening to the music provided and post their responses to the classroom no later than Friday at 5pm.
All materials will be provided by the instructor.
Learners will be assessed based on their class participation. They are expected to post responses to the guided questions provided to them and participate in the online classroom discussions. I will respond to each learner's question responses every week and offer advice for improving their writing and listening skills. At the end of this course, learners will be provided with a certificate of completion.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
