Music With Ms. Annette: Group Singing Lessons for Tweens

In this 8-week group class, singers will build upon the basics of singing--posture, breathing, support, vowels and tone, and projection and resonance--in a safe and supportive group setting. They will also learn basic anatomy for singers.

Class Experience

WHO: Any tween who wants to sing! If you're between 8- and 12-years old, with or without experience
WHAT: A group singing class or lesson featuring tween-friendly and developmentally appropriate vocal exercises, physical and vocal warms ups, breathing exercises, singing pure vowels, matching rhythm and pitch, and age-appropriate songs specifically designed for teaching musical concepts will be introduced.
WHERE: Here on Outschool and also in your home!
WHEN: Once a week for 8 weeks, 45 minutes each lesson
WHY: For the joy of it!

Classes will be structured to begin with physical and vocal warm-ups and singing games. New concepts will be introduced through songs and interspersed with stories, games, and vocal exercises. Children will be given a chance to both look at music and learn through call and response/echo singing. There will also be chances to use props and to engage in some composition. All singers will also be given chances to perform alone, although this is always optional.

This class will be extremely interactive. All students are expected to participate, even if they choose not to sing solo for the group. No materials are necessary other than a voice and desire to sing. I believe that teaching voice involves a great deal of trust between students, group of learners, and the teacher, and strive to create an environment where singers feel safe and comfortable sharing their voices. My goal is not necessarily to create singers, but young people who feel comfortable putting their voices out in the world.

No prior experience or knowledge is needed for this class.
Singers may take this class more than once, as each session will be different and reflect the interest and abilities of the singers enrolled.
Learning Goals
