1-2 hours per week. Since practice is an important part of learning a musical instruments, it is recommended that students practice at least 15 minutes per day for 4 days per week, for a total of 60 minutes per week. Practice logs will be provided.Class Experience
In these weekly private one on one ukulele lessons, beginning, intermediate and early advanced ukulele students will learn how to play their ukulele. Beginner students will be using the Hal Leonard Ukulele Method Book 1, which should be purchased by the students before class begins. No prior knowledge is required. Students should have a soprano (small), concert (medium) or baritone (large) 4-string ukulele to use for all classes. In this class, beginner students will learn the history of the ukulele, basic music symbols (such as rhythms, note names and note values) picking, strumming and chords. After learning the basics of how to hold and tune their ukulele, beginning students will learn to pick a variety of songs, such as Beethoven's "Ode to Joy", the folk song "Oh! Susanna" and traditional songs like "Aura Lee" and "Amazing Grace". Next students will learn to strum 13 different chords. They will also learn various strum patterns, such as the "waltz strum", "finger and thumb strum", the "single roll stroke" and "tremolo". Lastly, the students will learn to strum a variety of songs, such as "Au Claire de la Lune", "Shave and a Haircut", "Doo-Wop Uke" and "The Haunted Uke Blues". Intermediate and Early advanced students will be assigned more advanced method books and will continue to learn more difficult picking and strumming patterns and chords. We will progress through the book at your child's pace. Students will be assigned 1 or more pages to practice between lessons. Due to the nature of private instrument lessons, I require a student's camera to be on at all times. It should be pointed at the student's fingers on their instrument so I can best help with proper technique. I will send a picture of the ideal camera position before lessons start. Since practice is an important part of learning an instrument, students should practice 15-20 minutes per day for 4-5 days per week, for a minimum of 60 minutes of practice per week. Practice logs will be provided for students to write down the pages to practice and the number of minutes they practice per week. If a student is more than 10 minutes late, it will be considered a missed class, per Outschool policy and the class is not eligible for a refund. If the student needs to cancel class, I will reschedule if possible or issue a refund, as long as I am notified more than 24 hours in advance. In general, students are allowed to cancel/reschedule 1 lesson every 8 weeks (with 24 hours notice). Exceptions may be made in emergency situations. If I as a teacher have a scheduling conflict, I will either contact you to reschedule for a different time or issue a refund. I have Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Music and 20 years of experience. I have taught this particular curriculum in school settings for 10+ years. I am passionate about music and look forward to teaching your child to play their ukulele!
