Description
Class Experience
Student will learn: how to produce an age appropriate singing voice How to keep a steady beat Basic music notation and how to read it Music vocabulary and terminology How to actively listen to music Folk dances A wide variety of repertoire both familiar and new
I hold a bachelors and masters degree in music education and have been teaching elementary school general music for over 15 years. I am also a professionally working musician on multiple instruments and have a vast repertoire of songs to draw from. I love making music and love watching others enjoy making music and developing as young musicians!
Not really homework, but students are encouraged to explore their own musical skills outside of class to more meaningfully interact during class. This may include keeping track of preferred music. I always encourage students to bring their own preferred repertoire to class for others to enjoy.
Optional: percussion instruments (drums, shakers, tambourine, triangle, etc)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be informally assessed on their progress in singing proficiency, rhythmic literacy and knowledge of music terminology as related to listening and performing.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
YouTube is a great resource to have available for references outside of class.
