In this ongoing class, students will develop their music theory abilities to help make them better musicians.

Class experience

This course follows the RCM program of music theory. Students will learn various technical elements, such as scales and arpeggios, studies and etudes, and several pieces of music. At the end of the year, they can either take a practice exam with me or be ready to take the official RCM exams (if desired and if in Canada).

Depending on student level, they may learn the following things:
Music notes, key signatures
Staff notes
Music note values and time signatures
Intervals and accidentals
Types of intervals and chords, including inversions
Writing short melodies and harmonies
Transposing music

I have been studying music since 1997 (violin) and 1999 (piano). I also taught myself to play 4 other instruments, and did years of official study in music theory.

Homework Offered
Students will be asked to complete assignments outside of class. 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Work will be completed in class and students will receive instant feedback. 
Grades Offered

Students will need the Celebrate Theory book for their level.
