Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
Beginner Level
This course will focus on a different music theory topic each week and is a great companion course for the piano learner or any learner interested in how music works. Each week learners will be presented with an explanation and examples of the week's topic. Then learners will practice, using handouts and other materials. Finally, learners will review with an interactive activity and/or a presentation of completed work from the class.

Since this is an ongoing class, learners can subscribe and unsubscribe as needed for interest or scheduling purposes.

Learners will be given handouts throughout the course. Learners will need blank paper, a ruler (optional), and writing supplies. It would also be helpful to have a dry erase pocket/board (or something similar). We may use scissors, glue and small objects like coins on various weeks as well.

May 15 - Articulation - Staccato, Legato, Tie, Slur
May 22 - Sharps and Flats

Texas Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Hello! My name is Mrs. McArthur and I teach MUSIC! I am a Texas certified all-level music teacher with 29 years of teaching experience, 26 years in public schools and 3 years online and homeschool experience. I have taught preschool through eighth grade General Music and Choir classes. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal music from Oklahoma Baptist University.

I believe that every learner can make music! Learners need a variety of experiences to learn music skills, including visual, aural and kinesthetic. Given sequential steps, students can achieve well beyond the expectations. When creativity is modeled, learners discover that making mistakes improves music. Learners need opportunities to be creative with choices so they can create on their own terms and interests. By making connections to science, social studies, math and beyond, students learn that subjects don’t exist in isolation. Music is the universal language and learners deserve a chance to explore the world through a musical lens!
