Class Experience

This course is for guitar players, who can already play basic chords on the guitar.
The students will learn about chord formulas and how the chords that they play are made up of certain notes from that key. They will gain an understanding of keys, and triad formulas, including major, Minor, diminished, and augmented triads. Then we will cover the three types of seventh chords.
My teaching style is relaxed and casual, but with a focus on each student understanding and being able to apply the material.
The class will be a combination of working out chords with the Zoom white board, and practical application by playing the chords on the guitar.
Week 1 - Introduction to chord formulas and how to use create chords from the major scales, using the formulas. Introduction to major triads. I will use the white board in zoom, and the students will be invited to participate to help create the triads. At the beginning of class, we will review the circle of fifths and the sharp scales.
Week 2 - Review major triads and practice creating them. I will use the white board in zoom, and the students will create the major triads. We will then discover how to play major triads on the guitar.
Each student will get to practice playing the triads shapes on their guitar. We will discover how the basic position chords on the guitar, are made up of the notes in the major triad formula.
Week 3 - Introduction to Minor, diminished and augmented triads. I will use the white board in zoom, so we can create the triads together. Then the students will play the triad shapes on their guitars. We will discuss how the notes from the Minor triad can be found in the basic position guitar chords.
Week 4 - Seventh chords - We will learn the formuals for the three types of seventh chords. Then we will learn the shapes for the three types of seventh chords on the guitar. The students will play dominant seventh chords, major seventh chords and minor seventh chords on their guitars.
