What's included
Class Experience
This class is structured so students can learn at their own pace. There are 6 Units in this class. I have split the two most difficult units into two parts (See Weekly Schedule below). I will teach using screen casting, pre-recorded instructional video, and Nearpod so that the students can interact with me as well as their classmates. I have come up will various notable musical examples from all genres to illustrate content. Student will listen to their ear training CD needed to complete their weekly ear training activities. I will post the link to the CD in the class materials. This course is interactive through use of Nearpod Review activities, such as "Time to Climb" which is a game with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner, "Matching Pairs", and students are even given the opportunity to brainstorm together using the Nearpod "Collaboration" feature. This course includes the topics of: Tetrachords, Major Scales, Order of Flats/Sharps. Chromatic Scales, Intervals, The Circle of Fifths, Perfect and Major Intervals, Minor Intervals, Augmented and Diminished Intervals, Solfege, Transposition, Sixteenth Note/Rests, Dotted Eighth Notes, Cut Time, 3/8 and 6/8 Time Signatures, Eighth Note Triplets, Pick Up Notes, Syncopation, Triads, Scale Degree Functions, and Dominant 7th Chords. I include entertaining video, comparisons, tips, tricks and personal experience in my screen casts and check for understanding through strategic Nearpod questioning. My teaching style, as well a my Master's Degree, has a strong focus differentiating. No two learners learn the same way. Knowing and appreciating this, I provide musical, visual, kinesthetic and linguistic learning options throughout my screencasts and lectures. It is recommended that the learner complete the class "Music Theory for College Prep Part 1" prior to this class. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Parents and Students!
Amy Effler here! I have a passion for teaching and just can’t get enough of it! I currently teach in the public school system, and am ready for a new challenge. I teach elementary music, high school music theory, high school music history, and piano lessons and love every second of it.
I have earned my undergraduate degree from Westminster College in Music Education graduating Magna Cum Laude through the Honors Capstone Program. I got a job in Maryland teaching choir and General Music. Six years later, I earned my Masters Degree in Education Specializing in Differentiated Instruction from LaSalle University. Currently, I am one class away from earning my Administration Certificate through Salisbury University. Though I am new at online teaching, I am looking forward to this form of education very much.
My philosophy as an educator has been consistent for the entirety of my career, and that is no two students learn exactly the same way. Because of this, I am planning on adding ample variety to my lessons. My educational philosophy is why I chose Differentiated Instruction for my Masters Degree.
Something personal (though I would not consider it fun, more interesting) is I was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2016. I am very strong willed, so I had a lot of determination to not let it ruin my life. I am now cancer-free, thanks to hard work, an aggressive tumor removal conducted by a very brave surgeon, and God’s will for my life. The only thing that brain cancer has taken from me is my ability to use my right hand. Because of this, I will be using a student model for my piano lessons.
I hope you/your child sign up for one of my classes!
