Music Theory for Beginners: How to Read Music With Ocean Animals
What's included
1 live meeting
25 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
We will discuss how many beats certain notes get, the staff, treble and bass clefs, and high/low pitches. We'll also learn letter names of the notes on the staff using mnemonic phrases. After learning about the notes, we will clap a few rhythms to check for understanding. Through an interactive ocean themed slideshow, learners will encounter sea creatures who will quiz them along the way, and when they answer correctly, will receive gold stars. At the end, they will discover a hidden treasure! This class is great for beginners with no music experience or are just starting beginner's piano lessons. It is also great for those wanting to know if music is something he or she wants to pursue in the future. We will begin class by introducing ourselves. Then we will start our musical scavenger hunt for the treasure using a slideshow. Sample questions in the hunt are: -How many beats does a quarter note get? -Is this sound high pitched or low pitched? - What is the name of this note? (ie. whole note) If there's time, we will use either flash cards or an online game to test if students remember note names on the staff (ie. A) Don't be afraid to reach out and request a specific time. I work full time, so evenings work for me. However, I'm pretty free on the weekends.
Learning Goals
Students will begin to understand and recognize the notes in the treble and bass clefs (both letter names and count), high vs. low pitch, and the staff. They will also learn about quarter notes, half notes, dotted half notes, and whole notes.
