This will be an in depth class to help students with their music theory, rhythm and sight singing. We will cover solfeg (movable Do), rhythm, subdivision, chord structures, phrasing, basic aural skills, how to read music, and breath control. This class will be structured as a zoom call once a week where I will show the students what to look for when sight singing, and how to read music. I will help them get into a proper headspace, and work on how to practice sight reading on instruments, singing, and rhythmic dictation. I will utilize books I have on hand and share my screen with the students for exercises. Then utilize break out rooms depending on class size for the students to work together and for individual sight singing assessment. In the theory portion of this class we will work on major and minor scales, intervals, basic chords, reading music and key signatures. In class we will work with Powerpoints for the theory aspects we will learn and practice new concepts and the students will be able to ask questions. On the sight singing days we will put those concepts into real practice as we see them in context, students will still have a chance to ask questions and write or compose melodies for the sight singing days. I will utilize a piano to play students melodies and will sing along with the student. Learners will be able to talk to one another and give constructive feedback and support their peers. No prior knowledge is needed for this class. Week 1 6/22 and 6/24 Basic notation and singing beginning scales- we will talk about parts of a measure and notes in the Treble clef.
