Description

Class Experience

Students will quickly gain the skills necessary to confidently read and understand single-voice music notation in treble and bass clefs. Students will also become familiar with the available resources for continued learning and practice as they master musical notation.
I have taught Music Theory at all levels, from elementary school to graduate school. I have over 20 years experience in the music industry and in music academia.
Students will have weekly assignments related to a musical analysis that will be completed independently or in collaboration with the rest of the class.
Required Textbook: Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory (Complete). CDs are not included with this book and are NOT required for this class. You can purchase this book on Amazon, SheetMusicPlus, or at your local music store. https://www.amazon.com/Essentials-Complete-Training-Workbook/dp/0882848976/ref=asc_df_0882848976/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=247176327042&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2103698354094638016&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012421&hvtargid=pla-627232997952&psc=1 Recommended Supplies Access to a printer is strongly recommended, so that students can use scratch staff paper to practice notation A device with access to an app store to download recommended free apps A pencil with a good eraser A folder to keep printouts organized Index cards for flash cards Apps will be recommended as the course progresses.
