U.S. Department of Education data on more than 25,000 secondary school students found that students who report consistent high levels of involvement in instrumental music over the middle and high school years show "significantly higher levels of mathematics proficiency by grade 12." However it is not enough to simply participate but to also have understanding. Beethoven’s Sonata No.8 Op 13 is one of the most widely recognized work of art in music history. In this one hour class, we will listen to and study the memorable 2nd movement and learn about the form and structure Beethoven chose to create this classic work of art. For those parents who are interested in classical education, this class will also relate Beethoven’s work to part of the writing process used in language arts studies, specifically, how to develop an outline. Students will spend an hour with Beethoven and learn to enjoy classical music on a whole new level of understanding. Students do not need prior knowledge of music form and analysis to participate in this class. Students simply need an eagerness to learn and a willingness to participate in discussion.
