Week 1: Making Melodies. Students should learn the basics of how to make a melody. Week 2: Making Drums. Students should learn the basics of how to make a drum pattern. Week 3: Mixing Beats. Students should learn the basics of how to mix instruments used in beats. Week 4: Mastering Beats. Students should learn the basics of how to make a complete instrumental beat.
Students will have one project each week posted on Classtrak. Course code: H6C3F Projects will be either (1) making melodies, (2) making drum patterns, or (3) mixing beats. Students will be completing assignments individually. Projects should only take 1-2 hours each week, however, students will be motivated to work on other projects outside of the requirements. Students will also have one pre-class preparation activity each week (including before the first class). This will include listening to their favorite song's instrumental and/or recreating instrumentals from existing songs. Pre-class preparation activities should only take up to an hour each week, however, students will be motivated to pursue other similar activities outside of the requirements.
Each student should have quality headphones and a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation): Image-Line's FL Studio 20.
Students will receive full credit on each assignment if they follow all of the listed requirements. Students will "pass" the course if they complete all 3 projects with all the requirements. Please contact me if there any issues during the completion of each project. Note: Students will not be graded on the "quality" of their projects, however, students will receive verbal feedback during class on how to improve the quality their projects.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
