US Grade 7 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
Music Production 1.0 is an introduction to Audio Engineering, Music Production, and Electronic Music Composition. We start with the bare-bone basics of Audio including the different types of audio signals, frequency, and fundamental audio tools such as Equalization, Compression, and Reverb. We also cover some basic Music Theory, Electronic Music Composition, and eventually culminating to the students' Final Project - creating a fully produced, recorded, and mixed original composition. Each lesson in this course builds from the last to create a learning flow that is easy to follow and understand. Our main goal is to give students a solid technical foundation with which they can more fully express their creativity. Originality, Creativity, and Self-Expression are the key tenets of our program. The technical knowledge covered in this course would rival any post-secondary Music Technology program. If a student were to enroll in a Music Technology class at a college or university after taking our courses, they would no doubt be one of the most well-equipped in the class.
Learning Goals
At the end of this course, students should gain an introductory understanding of Audio Recording, Editing, and Mixing, Electronic Music Composition, and a working knowledge of Digital Audio Workstations.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have over 20 years of experience as a Music Producer and Engineer, and even more as a Musician. 10 of those years I spent actively working in the mainstream music/entertainment industry. During that time, I was blessed to win a GRAMMY award, work on several Billboard charting and Platinum selling projects, and tour around the world with some of the industries biggest artists.
I've always been passionate about sharing my experiences. I think it's important to allow people to see the highs and lows that come with this particular career path. I make a point to include as much of my real life experience in my courses. I think it helps make it more real, especially for students who may want to seriously consider pursuing a career in the music industry.
I have been teaching in some capacity for most of my life. I first started as a teenager, teaching piano lessons on the weekends at a music school near my house. I also worked with children as a camp counselor for a few years after high school. After college I was pretty engulfed in my career, but I always made time to mentor young people whenever I could. I'm proud to say that a handful of the people I've had the opportunity to share my time and knowledge with have gone on to have successful music careers.
Ultimately, my passion as an educator lies in helping young people recognize the power of their IDEAS! Imagination and creativity are tools that can literally propel them to create whatever kind of life they desire for themselves. My hope for this program is for it to enhance what already exists inside their minds, and give them the technical skills they need to make the process of bringing those ideas to life more seamless and more fun!
