Piano for Beginners: A fun, interactive course designed for kids ages 7-12 who want to start playing piano! We'll begin with the basic fundamentals, including notes on the piano, note-reading (aka "sight-reading"), rhythm, treble clef (right hand) and bass clef (left hand) playing, the grand staff, dynamics, tempo, and expression. Students will learn fun, easy songs that teach new concepts and build on previous lessons. We'll use Alfred's All-In-One Course Book, Level 1 as our roadmap (see...
In "Piano For Beginners", students will learn basic fundamentals for playing piano. Prospective topic schedule- Week 1: Participant Introductions, Introduction to the Piano Week 2: Introduction to Piano Keys A through G. Week 3: Bass Clef and Left Hand playing. Week 4: Treble Clef and Right Hand playing. Week 5: The Grand Staff. Week 6: Expression and Articulation. Week 7: Intervals. Week 8: Review.
Homework assigned will be 1-2 songs a week to practice, and 1-2 theory worksheets. All homework will be included in the Alfred's All-In-One Course Book, Level 1 (see link under "Sources"). Homework will also be explained and introduced during class time. Since learning how to play piano is a hands-on skill, and a sport of it's own, students are encouraged to practice their songs 20-30 minutes a day, recommended 4-5 days a week. Theory worksheets are short to accomplish and can be completed any time during the week before the upcoming class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
