Piano for Beginners 2: A fun, interactive course designed for kids ages 7-12 who wish to continue past Beginner Level 1! We'll begin with a review of the basic fundamentals, including note-reading (aka "sight-reading"), rhythm, the grand staff, and dynamics. New topics will include more intervals (beyond 2nds and 3rds, students will also learn 4ths and 5ths), G position playing, sharps, and flats. Students will learn fun, easy songs that teach new concepts and build on previous lessons. We'll use Alfred's All-In-One Course Book, Book 2 as our roadmap (see link under "Sources"). Additionally, this course includes simple music theory topics! Participants will learn both how to play the piano and important music theory concepts (such as note identification and note writing) that are vital to musician studies. This class is the value of taking two separate courses (piano and music theory) in one! As a pianist for over 15 years, instructor Ms. Serena is passionate about teaching piano to students of all ages and levels, including beginners! Ms. Serena's teaching style encourages positivity, participation, and self-confidence in a fun, judgement-free environment. Come ready to learn and to have a good time with peers and the instructor! Sign up today! Looking forward to it.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Ms. Serena and I'm one of the music instructors here on Outschool! I offer various types of music classes for all ages to enjoy, from group piano lessons to pop music analysis.
I started learning piano when I was 5 years old, and I've never looked back! I've been teaching music lessons since 2016 and as a pianist and accompanist, I've collaborated with kid soloists and children's choirs. I am currently earning my Bachelor's degree in Music Education at my state university.
Music is my passion, and sharing it through fun, interactive classes is my lifestyle! I believe in helping my students learn and grow, both as musicians and as individuals. In their lessons with me, students learn important fundamentals of music, as well as important life skills like self-confidence and positivity. My goal is to help students realize their innate talents and express themselves in an enjoyable, judgement-free environment.
Let's make some music!
Best wishes,
Ms. Serena
