Music Improv Party for Strummed Instruments
What's included
1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Come join me for a fun time with strummed instruments! In this class, we’ll use the chords C, G, F, and Am to do a round robin jam session. Bring your guitar, mandolin, ukelele, banjo, autoharp, bouzouki, anything you’ve got! Don’t know those chords yet? Join one of my 1:1 sessions! You’ll learn them in as quickly as one session. It’s important to me to show learners that they can play more than what they read on the page or learn in a lesson; they can improvise to create their own music. This will be a fun, social hour of music and exploration; we’ll practice quick-learning, collaboration, and songwriting by improvising together. I'll see you there!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I’m a performer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and sound designer in New York City. My classes on Outschool all revolve around theatre, theatre production, and music. You’ll find classes on creating virtual theatre, devising theatre, music, and monologue prep. I’m always so excited to work with the next generation of storytellers and makers. I can’t wait to meet you!
In 2002, I co-founded a theatre company in NYC, and we’ve created thirty-some pieces presented in theaters all over New York, the US, Australia, Europe, and the UK. I’ve been a guest lecturer and performer at NYU, Princeton, Duke, UNC, Wesleyan, Hellenic American University, UNC Chapel Hill, Muhlenberg, JMU, and SUNY Buffalo. Each engagement is slightly different, but ranges from teaching workshops to the students and staff, to spending months in residency with the students to create new works of theatre.
I present workshops to the Educational Theatre Association’s programs, including Thespian Nation Live, where I am also a mentor to students preparing their monologues to be presented in the contest. Additionally, I sometimes adjudicate for the International Thespian Excellence Awards (Thespys), scoring their work and providing educational feedback.
Most recently, I’ve been an audio consultant to online theatre; I’ve spent this pandemic teaching professional organizations, professional theaters, middle schoolers, high schoolers, students in college, and professional artists all over the world to optimize their Zoom settings for the best virtual performance possible. I’ve tuned the sound of artists and casts to improve their microphone quality, and shown people how to use the lights they already have in their home to create optimal and theatrical looks.
I love collaboration and singing all together. I have a deep and profound love for the NYT crossword puzzle.
