Beginner - Intermediate Level
What will be taught? In our 8 week Music History course we will learn about the 6 periods of music (Medieval to Modern). We will learn about instruments from each period, learn about composers, hear LIVE performances of music, discover special characteristics of each period, and more! We will also learn simple note taking skills as we create a lap book of music history. How will learners interact with teacher and classmates? Interaction will occur through discussion, viewing pictures, listening to live performances, question and answer, and building our lap book. Required experience? There is no pre-requisite to take this course. General plan for the course: Week 1: Class introductions, go over materials and how we will use them, prepare our lap book, and overview of 6 musical periods plus Impressionism. We will start working on the Medieval Period. Week 2: Renaissance period. Week 3: Baroque period. Week 4: Classical period. Week 5: Romantic Period. Week 6: Impressionism Week 7: Modern Period Week 8: Tie up loose ends/ possible Bonus activity
Learning Goals
Students will learn music related vocabulary and concepts.
Students will understand the 6 different periods of music in relation to the development or written music and instruments.
Students will cultivate an appreciation for music.
Students will engage in live performances of keyboard music.
