What will be taught? In our 13 week Music History course we will learn about the Medieval Period to 1945. Specifically: Medieval Period, Renaissance Period, Baroque Period, Classical Period, Romantic Period, Impressionism, and Modern Period to 1945. We will learn about instruments from each period, learn about notable composers, hear LIVE* performances of keyboard music, discover special characteristics of each period, cultural history, musical form associated with each period, and more. *Mrs. Erickson will perform keyboard works from notable composers on the piano, live in class. How will learners interact with teacher and classmates? Interaction will occur through lecture, discussion, viewing pictures (via screen share), listening to live performances, question and answer, trading cards (original teacher creations), and note-taking. Discussion about musical concepts and asking questions is encouraged! I want my students to thoroughly understand the material and I appreciate student questions for better understanding. PDF printouts will be provided for each Period of Music History. Trading cards are a fun element added to this class. We will create trading cards about notable composers and period instruments. Additional note taking will be encouraged. Required experience? There is no pre-requisite to take this course. General plan for the course: Week 1: Class introductions and expectations.
