I hold a Masters Certificate from Berklee College of Music. In addition to performing, I compose and arrange music for bands and choruses.
Each week, students will be given an assignment to practice the concepts learned in class. Assignments should not take more than 30 - 60 minutes to do.
The class will include handouts for several of the lessons generated in Noteflight. Students should not need to print them out unless they want to take notes on them. Students should come to class with a notebook and pencil for taking notes.

As detailed above in the class description, students will be using Noteflight. If you sign up within 2 hours of the beginning of class, I may not have enough time to get students set up in Noteflight before the start of class. If possible, please do not wait until the last minute.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Because students will have ample opportunity to practice the skills in class and with homework, assessment will be ongoing.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will be creating their work in Noteflight, an external web app for music composition. For the duration of the class, students will be able to use the special "Noteflight Learn" account through my music studio. This is free of charge and I will set up each learner as they register. Students do not need to register for an account themselves. No data is collected or stored in this account beyond their classwork and first name. Noteflight Learn is COPPA and FERPA compliant, meaning, it meets the standards required by public schools to ensure student privacy.

After the class ends, they will no longer have access to this Noteflight account (unless they are continuing with me). I will show them how to export their work so they don't lose their compositions. They can also, optionally, create a standard Noteflight account and move their work to that account. A video tutorial will be made available before this class starts for students to familiarize themselves with Noteflight. Noteflight's user guide and online help are also very good. During class, I will walk students through any basics that they need to know to do their work.
