This is a general music class for young beginners. I will be teaching basic music skills including finding a steady beat, rhythm, rhythmic notation, melody, solfege, melodic notation, time signature, the staff, ways to use your voice, dynamic, tempo, high vs low, identifying instruments by look and sound, basic aural skills, and a love of music! I will cover 1 new topic every class and spend some time reviewing the topics from the weeks before. Topics will be rotating each week and review will be done in a way that in friendly to new students. I teach mostly through the Kodály method of music education and with singing. Learners will sing with me and learn songs that use the topics discussed. All songs will be simple children's songs and chants. Students will be asked questions during review and teaching, will occasionally be asked to draw with their finger on the screen, and will sing with me. No prior music experience is required since this class is for beginners. Focus by week: You will notice that our focus will change each week and then circle back after 11 weeks. When we come back to a focus, it is a new lesson with that focus. This is a spiral approach and the goal is for the child to be introduced to the topics and then practice them again in a new way, each time finding more familiarity and comfort in the area. You do not have to join or drop at any specific time, as each meeting stands alone as a new lesson in whatever the focus may be. Each time we meet, we focus on one of the following, and we rotate through. When we get to the end, we start back at the first focus, but with a new lesson. If you want to know the specific topic we are on for any specified date, feel free to reach out, and we are happy to let you know.
