In this course you will learn the “bassics” of holding the bass, reading tabs of your favorite songs, learning world-famous bass riffs, and playing like a bass king or queen or royal. Day One: Bassics! Learn the anatomy of the bass, where to place your hands, and notes and rhythms - all while learning your first song! Day Two: Got any TABS?? Learn how to read bass tablature and identify rhythms so that you can learn to play any song that you want. Day Three: Flying Fingers! We’ll expand more on different finger techniques like muting and raking to help you play faster and smoother, while also learning your first scale. Day Four: Bass Kings and Queens and Royals! On the last day of camp, we'll be learning techniques of the masters like how to play octaves, slapping, sliding, hammer-ons, and more. **To save as much class time as possible for learning, listening, and rocking, please make sure your bass guitar is tuned before the start of each lesson. You can definitely ask a grown-up to help you out with this. If you ever have any questions feel free to message me and ask as well. -------------------- keywords: summer camp, bass guitar, bass lessons, private music lessons, guitar class, music group, music camp, musician, how to play bass, music theory, camp
Learning Goals
This course is primarily for beginning musicians. No previous music lessons or bass guitar experience is needed.
I will be teaching students basic music theory, ear training, proper bass technique, and rhythm playing so that students will be able to effectively learn any song on their own once they finish this course. We will learn everything together, so students can expect me to model, use visuals, and play along with them constantly in order for concepts to be fully grasped. I also find that when students feel the rhythm and beats of songs, it is easier for them to internalize it - be prepared to clap, tap your foot, or even jump in place during lessons.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from The Master's University
Hi, I'm Teacher Monica (she/they) - a musician, artist and martial artist. I am passionate about teaching, traveling the world, and creating art.
I have experience teaching in the 1-on-1, small group, classroom and taekwondo studio settings. I worked as a middle and high school choir and fine art teacher at a Waldorf school, but I also have experience with teaching early elementary aged learners in private and small group music and art classes. I also trained as a head instructor at a Martial Art studio.
As an experienced educator, I believe that every child can become what they dream and achieve their goals. All learners deserve a well-planned, differentiated education. I am an energetic and passionate teacher and do my absolute best to model to my students so they have an example of what having a passion for learning and creating art or music looks like.
I have been teaching music for 20 years and received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2014. This helped me achieve a firm grasp on the art of teaching music in both a group or private lesson setting. I also learned so many tools on how to study, read, and analyze music, which helps me guide my students into being confident performers and analyzers of their pieces.
Fun facts:
I have three cats named Atoka, Calcifer, and Bagels.
I have a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
