1-2 hours per week. Since practice is an important part of learning a musical instruments, it is recommended that students practice at least 15 minutes per day for 4 days per week, for a total of 60 minutes per week. Practice logs will be provided.Class Experience
In this set of 8 private one on one piano lessons, beginning piano students will begin to learn how to play their piano or electric keyboard. The students will use the method books "Faber Piano Adventures Primer Level". Using the Technique book, students will learn technique for playing the piano, including posture, hand position and fingering. Using the Lesson book, students will learn note names, rhythm, music reading and dynamics. Using the Performance book, students will put into practice the concepts learned in the Technique and Lesson books, while playing slightly more difficult "performance" pieces with expression. I will provide accompaniment tracks for the students to practice with for some of the songs in the Performance book, so they can provide mini concerts for their friends and family members. Using the Theory book, students will learn to write basic music symbols, such as various notes and clefs. They will also practice their sight-reading skills. We will progress through the books at your child's pace. Students will be assigned 1 or more pages in each book to practice between lessons. Students will not finish all 4 books in 8 weeks. This is an introduction to playing the piano and parents can sign up for another set of 8 lessons at the end of the first 8 weeks. Due to the nature of private instrument lessons, I require a student's camera to be on at all times. It should be pointed at the student's fingers on their instrument so I can best help with proper technique. I will send a picture of the ideal camera position before lessons start. Since practice is an important part of learning an instrument, students should practice 15-20 minutes per day for 4-5 days per week, for a minimum of 60 minutes of practice per week. Practice logs will be provided for students to write down the pages to practice and the number of minutes they practice per week. If a student is more than 10 minutes late, it will be considered a missed class, per Outschool policy and the class is not eligible for a refund. If the student needs to cancel class, I will reschedule if possible or a lesson will be added to the end of their lesson package as long as I am notified more than 24 hours in advance. In general, students are allowed to cancel/reschedule 1 lesson every 8 weeks (with 24 hours notice). Exceptions may be made in emergency situations. If I as a teacher have a scheduling conflict, I will either contact you to reschedule for a different time or add a lesson at the end of your lesson package. I began learning to play the piano at the age of 5 and have played the piano ever since. I took private piano lesson for 17 years, including in college (BS in Music Education) and while I earned my Master's Degree (MA in Church Music). I have been teaching private piano lessons to students using these books for almost 20 years. I have taught private piano lessons to literally hundreds of students, both in my home and in a school setting. I look forward to helping your child begin their piano adventure!
Learning Goals
Students will begin to learn the basics of playing the piano. Hopefully they will fall in love with playing the piano like I did at a young age.
