What's included
1 live meeting
25 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
Learners will receive a personalized practice assignment after each class. Students should practice 6-7 days per week, but the time requirement for each practice session will vary according to the learner’s age and ability level.Class Experience
In this fun and activity-filled class, students will have their first piano lesson with an experienced teacher. Learners should be at their piano or large keyboard, but will also be standing up and moving around. During this private music lesson we will: • Introduce correct bench placement, posture, and hand and body position. • Learn keyboard geography (black and white keys, high and low notes). • Create and listen to different sounds at the piano. • Sing a familiar folk song. • Practice feeling and creating pulse and rhythm in the body. • Draw notes of different rhythm values. • Learn music theory terms for the staff and note name reading. • Sing and play simple stepping and repeating patterns on the keys. • Play our very first piano piece! Alternatively, this class is for learners who have previous piano experience and are wanting to return to lessons with a new teacher. These students should also attend class at their piano, with any old piano books or sheet music that they have used before. Please contact the teacher to request a time if there is nothing listed that fits your schedule. Lessons are also available to students older than the 6-11 year old age range.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Ms. Joanna. Thank you for your interest in my classes!
As a piano teacher since 2001, a volunteer youth activity and music leader, an online ESL teacher, and a mother of six, I know children learn best when they are happy, engaged, and moving. Students in my classes participate in a variety of activities to keep them interested.
My classroom is a fun place where children can feel safe to ask questions and explore their creativity. I want my students to be comfortable, which leads them to gain confidence. Then I can push and challenge their skills to build their competence.
I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Brigham Young University in 2005. My teaching career began in 2001 when I was employed to teach group and private piano lessons at a music academy. I have also taught piano as a business owner in my own music studio, and offered piano lessons through a local homeschool partnership. Over the years I have taught thousands of lessons to hundreds of students. I love working with children, getting to know their personalities, and seeing their talents grow!
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy playing the piano, knitting, cross-stitching, hiking with my family, walking my goldendoodle, and taking my kids to the library.
I look forward to seeing you in class soon!
