Welcome to Music All Around Us: Let’s Listen to Summer Campfire Soundscapes & Stories!

Let’s imagine we are camping outdoors! What amazing sounds would we hear while camping? Could those sounds be as beautiful as a piece of music? Let’s find out!

In this unique music class, we will use our ears and imagination to explore outdoor camping sounds and read their stories in poetry—campfires, night animals/insects, roasting marshmallows, and fun activities heard while camping during the summer, fall, winter, and spring! Let's be mindful and appreciate the music all around us! This is the 3rd class from the ongoing course "Music All Around Us: Let’s Listen to Soundscapes & Stories of the World!"

Children’s sound cognition abilities help them understand the world through sound. Learners will develop these listening skills organically with realistic and magical soundscapes. We will discuss the day’s theme, listen to relaxing soundscapes, and read poems which connect to each soundscape scene. At the end of class, learners will practice mindfulness by freely writing or doodling their thoughts and feelings while listening to the final soundscape of the day.

Class presentation is similar to an "escape room" style, meaning that there are immersive scenes to view, listen to, and discuss! This class will provide a warm and relaxing environment for young readers, musicians, and all who love sounds and music! Discussion will be gently encouraged but not forced upon shy learners.

**Important Note:
~Stories go beyond sight words, so please ensure that your learner will be comfortable reading, listening, and understanding stories that are more advanced.

In this series, let’s explore the music all around us—wild animals, oceans, forests, coffee shops, mermaids, beaches, pets, cities, and places all around the world! Let's appreciate the music all around us, and hear the voices of nature sing!

See you in class!

Welcome to Ms. Ashley’s Words & Sounds Classroom!

I love words & sounds! I studied Creative & Professional Writing, Children's Literature, and received a Masters in Music Theory & Composition from New York University.

I have taught music, creative writing, and English for 6+ years and have worked with children with language difficulties.

During my time at NYU, I began researching and developing music technology that promotes children’s sound cognition skills and combats difficulties in reading and speaking with the aid of sounds and music.

While a major goal in music studies and language studies is gaining technical understanding and accuracy, just as important is overcoming fear of self-expression and establishing curiosity. I wish to help your learners not only comprehend these topics, but also build confidence in their own creative voices!

Words & sounds are beautiful and exciting! Let’s explore them in class soon!
