The student will be able to produce three short projects: 1) Two assignments by the teacher that have the same end result for all students 2) A creation by the student using the same principles as the other two assignments The student is required to spend time learning the software program and completing the assignments. Generally recommended time is 20-30 minutes per day, 5 days per week. Some students may need more time.Assessment
Assessment: 1) Completing the assignments between class sessions that build knowledge and skill on the program 2) Completing the planned curriculum assignment designed by the instructor 3) Completion of the music project of the student's choosing All assignments must be emailed to the instructor for review. Instructions about this will be given in the first class session.Class Experience
This class will be very hands-on with the teacher guiding the students through an intentional step-by-step process. The entire course will be taught with a screen share so the students can see what the teacher is doing and copy it. Lesson outline and practice instructions will be given after each session. You must download MuseScore 4 to your computer so it can be used in class and between classes. The program is available in both Mac and PC versions. The student will learn the basics of the MuseScore music writing software program. Topics will include but not be limited to... 1) Setting up the title page, designating of voices and/or instruments, key signature, time signature, and numbers of measures 2) Two different ways to input notes and rests, adding intervals above and below entered notation 3) Copy and paste from one part to another, adding or removing empty measures, and removing sections of unwanted music 4) Insert chord symbols, tempo markings, dynamics, lyrics, and other staff texts 5) Transposing to different keys 6) Adding articulations and style markings 7) Adjusting the bar lines, repeats, and other directional changes PREREQUISITE Basic computer skills: the ability to type, use the keypad, and maneuver drop-down screens on a computer, upload and download working program files shared between student and teacher.

The instructor personally uses MuseScore for writing instructional materials, melodie, transposing, arranging, and composing music. This class has been taught several times since the summer of 2020 with good reviews.
Special note on tuition: The instructor reviews each student's daily submissions to provide immediate feedback so the student can make corrections before the next class session. Thus, students need to work on the daily assignment and upload it within a few hours after each session.
