Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Students will discover how a group of cells that perform a similar or related function is called a tissue. We will be specifically learning about the 3 Muscle Tissue types: Skeletal, Smooth, and Cardiac.

During our time together students will observe microscopic views and video animation how each specific muscle tissue works. We will review the functions of these specific tissue types and how they work within our body systems. Some of the questions we will discover together:
What are myofilaments and how do they relate to our muscles?
How does a muscle contract?
Are there any differences or similarities between the muscle tissue types?
What do involuntary and voluntary mean when we talk about our muscle tissue types?

Students will be guided to discover and question what happens with muscle tissue types. They will have plenty of examples and visuals to help reinforce what we are learning. We will even play a fun Jeopardy review game!

*I will include a diagram for the students for reference. It is a PDF document that will be uploaded prior to our first class.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of muscle tissue types: Skeletal, Smooth, and Cardiac by uncovering and investigating together through discussion and visuals. There will be many depictions and microscopic views to help students understand how these tissues work within our bodies.
