Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and happy exploring! My name is Jennifer Sumis and I am a 7/8 grade Social Studies teacher in Chicago, Illinois. I love teaching and have been happily teaching for 10 years. I never thought I could love something as much as I love to be in the classroom, whether it is in person or virtual. My educational background includes obtaining my bachelor's degree in secondary education from Millikin University. I received my teaching certificate in the state of Illinois. I have also found a love of teaching English online to students in China. I am also a mother of a 12 year old boy and we do many things to enjoy life! Random interesting fact: I dressed up as a zombie and helped to promote a 5K zombie run at a Chicago convention. How much fun I had!!
I am currently offering a series of middle school social studies classes that really dive into ancient civilizations. My passion has always been ancient societies and I absolutely enjoy learning and teaching about how advanced these civilizations were! I also love the English language and will be adding on middle school classes that will help students understand and use this amazing language.
I feel that in order for young people to be able to learn, lessons should be fun and engaging. I feel that as a teacher, I need to meet my students half way, so I allow my students to help me implement expectations, games, and activities they would look to do. Children should be actively involved in their learning environments. We have a lot of fun traveling around the ancient world and the English language.
Thank you for taking the time to read through my introduction and visit my profile! I hope to meet you soon so we can start enjoying some cool facts about the ancient world!
