Class Experience

Welcome to learning letter sounds! In this 30 minute ongoing class, we will review letter names and learn to say and write all letter sounds in a multisensory format. During this interactive course, students will be guided through instruction with the help of Mama Echo an owl puppet who will cue students to repeat letters, keywords and sounds. This class is based on Wilson Reading Fundations, a systematic and research based reading program. We will use a multisensory approach using our voices and bodies to engage the brain and support letter memory. Each class will focus on a group of letters so that your child may join every week until mastery, or choose to attend classes with letters they may be having difficulty with.

Each class will include a short greeting/ice breaker, review of letter names, explicit instruction of the letter sounds of the day and conclude with a scavenger hunt to find household item(s) starting with the letters taught that day. Please note if you don't want your child to move around and look for an object they will also have the option to draw instead. While students will be encouraged to form letters on paper/whiteboard, if your child has fine motor deficits they will also be able to use alphabet cards or magnetic letters to engage in the activities. This is a great class to take before joining my multisensory blending and spelling class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a licensed special education teacher with over ten years of elementary teaching experience. I have a passion for teaching phonics and have been fortunate enough to take both Orton-Gillingham and Wilson Reading multisensory reading trainings. I have taught phonics virtually since March 2020 and have found virtual instruction to be just as engaging, meaningful and accessible for a variety of learners as in person instruction. I look forward to meeting you!
