In this 10 lesson course, the student will learn their multiplication facts from ones to twelves. I will teach the student how to use different strategies when they multiply, like building arrays and using a number line. Using strategies will help the student build new knowledge based on prior knowledge. Each lesson will build off the last lesson taught. The class will include basic strategies as well as real life problems that allows the student to apply the new skills to relatable situations. My class structure: We will begin class with introductions. I want to find out your name, your likes, and what experience you have with multiplication. These classes are designed with the beginner in mind. I will build and extend the lesson as needed based on your student's needs. Next we will begin with the lesson goal and an opening activity. Then we will practice using different strategies, allowing the student to help build real life stories and problems. Finally, I will offer a challenge for the student to do at home. Lesson 1: Multiply by 1's and 2's June 14 Lesson 2: Multiply by 3's June 15 Lesson 3: Multiply by 4's June 16 Lesson 4: Multiply by 5's June 17 Lesson 5: Multiply by 6's June 18 Lesson 6: Multiply by 7's June 21 Lesson 7: Multiply by 8's June 22 Lesson 8: Multiply by 9's June 23 Lesson 9: Multiply by 10's and 11's June 24 Lesson 10: Multiply by 12's June 25 I love teaching Math and one way I like to do this is through hands on activities and real life connections. I am a serious teacher but fun too. I will allow students to explore math using critical thinking skills, but I will also help them step by step when needed. I will use a power point slide and hands on materials in class. Students will be able to ask questions and communicate with me. I like to hear HOW students solve problems and I love when they ask questions. If you don't understand, ask! Asking questions is the first step to gaining knowledge.
Learning Goals
Students will learn their multiplication facts from ones to twelves using strategies while making real life connections.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I'm Mrs. Music, or you can call me Teacher Heather. I have been teaching in the public school system for twenty years. I have taught Reading, Science, and Math. I currently teach 5th grade Math and love it! I am also the National Beta Sponsor for my school district. When I am not in the public school system, I am teaching online with VIPKID. I teach English, ESL, to students in China everyday. I love learning from students as much as I enjoy teaching. My professional certification is in elementary education, K-5th, grade and middle school mathematics, 5th-9th grade. I hold one Bachelor's degree and two Master’s degrees. The classes I offer are based on the needs I have seen and heard from parents in my years of teaching. I will focus on foundational skills in different subject areas, as well as critical thinking skills.
I believe that all children can learn. Learning takes patience and perseverance. Don’t give up. I have noticed over the years that students coming into my room for the first time lack number sense. I want to offer classes that strengthen number sense. I will help students strengthen their number sense by getting them to relate Math concepts to their own lives. In Reading, I want to help students learn some foundational skills, like phonics, comprehension techniques, and fluency. We live in a “right-now” society. “I want it now.” “I don’t get it now, so I will give up.” It is my hope that when you leave my classroom you are motivated to come back and learn again. Learning is not a one day one time thing. You have to keep going! Don’t give up. Mistakes are a very important part of learning. I want my students to embrace their mistakes and then learn from them. If you understand what mistakes you made and why you made it, your brain will grow and something magical will happen. You learn!
In my personal life, I have three teenage daughters, 18, 16, and 15 years old. When we can, we enjoy traveling to the beach and the mountains. My oldest daughter introduced our family to a new pet snake, named Ollie. While my husband isn’t a fan, I love Ollie. He is a ball python and very friendly. We also have a cat named Phoebe who loves to watch me teach online, and a dog named Bella who only hopes I drop food for her to eat. I don’t have a lot of hobbies other than teaching and taking care of my children, but I do enjoy photography.
I look forward to meeting you in my classroom! If you have any specific questions or requests, please message me. I am EST and will do my best to accommodate your requests. Thank you for the opportunity to teach your child. It is an honor!
